A disturbing incident occurred in Houston when a 24-year-old man, Robert Babin, is believed to have attacked his 61-year-old mother with a hammer during an argument. Following the assault, Babin allegedly reached out to a friend on a gaming platform to confess his crime, revealing the horrifying details of the attack.
The Confession and the Urgent Plea for Help
After the violent altercation with his mother, Babin reportedly messaged a friend, saying, “I am in trouble and I need your help.” According to court documents obtained by KTRK, he went on to explain that he had assaulted his mother with a hammer. Babin admitted that he became angry, and in his panic, he didn’t know what to do next.
He further mentioned, “I have to get rid of the hammer and destroy the evidence before the police get there,” indicating his fear of getting caught. He even mentioned that his mother was barely breathing after being struck several times on the head and side.
The friend, who was reportedly playing games with Babin at the time, was urged to call the police. However, by the time the messages were noticed, almost two hours had passed, leaving the victim in a critical state.
A Delayed Response
Authorities in Houston said that the gaming friend eventually persuaded Babin to contact the police. However, the delay in the response meant that Babin’s mother had to endure the suffering for a prolonged period. When the police arrived at the home on Holly Way in Harris County, they found the woman bleeding from her head in the backyard and unable to speak.
She was immediately airlifted to a nearby hospital in serious condition, where she remained in critical care the following day.

Babin was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, if convicted, Babin could face up to 20 years in prison. Initially, Babin tried to mislead the authorities, claiming he had gone to the store while his mother was napping and was confused when he returned to find police at the scene.
However, the text messages he allegedly sent to his friend contradicted his statement, making it clear that he had been involved in the crime.
