A shelter-in-place order has been lifted in Baytown after a fire broke out at Trek Resources, Inc. early Thursday morning. The fire caused concern, prompting authorities to issue a safety warning for local residents. However, the situation is now under control and the order has been removed, ensuring the safety of the community.
What Happened
At around 7:40 a.m. Thursday, firefighters were called to a fire at Trek Resources, located on Causeway Road, off Evergreen Road. The blaze occurred at a facility that handles industrial materials, raising alarms in the nearby areas.
In response to the fire, the City of Baytown issued a shelter-in-place order for residents in the Evergreen Fairways and Trinity Oak subdivisions. This was done as a precaution to protect public health until the fire was under control.
Air Quality and Safety
The shelter-in-place order was lifted after air quality readings confirmed that there were no hazardous levels of smoke or chemicals in the area. City officials emphasized that the air was now safe to breathe, allowing residents to return to their normal activities without concern.
Firefighting Efforts
Several local fire departments helped battle the blaze, including water tankers from Cove, Beach City, and Crosby Volunteer fire departments. Due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, these water tankers were essential for controlling the fire.
Foam trucks were also brought in from Harris County Hazmat and ExxonMobil to assist with putting out the fire and preventing further spread. The collaborative efforts from these teams helped bring the situation under control quickly.
Investigation
No injuries were reported in the fire, and authorities have confirmed that the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Baytown Fire Marshal’s Office. While the fire is under control, investigators are working to determine what caused the incident.
The Baytown fire situation has been resolved, and the shelter-in-place order has been safely lifted. Thanks to the quick response of local fire departments and the support from additional emergency services, the community is safe. The investigation continues to find out what caused the fire.
