On June 11, 2025, 67-year-old Moises Perez Alvarez, a man from Mexico, was sentenced to 40 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after pleading guilty to the 2009 murder of 45-year-old Faith Marie Guillory. The crime took place on September 14, 2009, in La Marque, Texas.
The Murder and Alvarez’s Escape
Faith Marie Guillory’s murder shocked the local community when it occurred. Following the crime, Moises Alvarez fled to Mexico, avoiding capture for over 14 years. His escape and the lengthy search for him became a significant part of the case. For years, Alvarez remained a fugitive, but the case was never closed.
Alvarez’s Capture and Extradition
In October 2023, after more than a decade of evading justice, Alvarez was apprehended in Mexico. While the details of his arrest remain unclear, it is known that the U.S. Department of Justice worked closely with Mexican authorities to bring him back to Texas. On February 22, 2024, Alvarez was booked into the Galveston County Jail, where he faced charges for the long-unsolved crime.
The Plea Agreement
After his extradition, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office consulted with Faith Guillory’s family before offering Moises Alvarez a plea deal. This agreement ultimately led to Alvarez pleading guilty to the murder, resulting in his sentence of 40 years in prison.
Moises Perez Alvarez’s long journey from evading justice to finally facing the consequences of his actions serves as a reminder of the persistence of law enforcement and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their crimes, no matter how much time has passed. Faith Marie Guillory’s family can now begin to find closure, as justice has been served, even after 14 years.
