The City of Galveston is happy to announce Heather Morris as the next City Marshal

The City of Galveston is excited to announce the appointment of Heather Morris as the new City Marshal. Morris was selected from a competitive pool of six highly qualified candidates, all of whom have extensive experience in law enforcement.

Responsibilities of the City Marshal

As City Marshal, Morris will manage several important areas including code enforcement, ground transportation enforcement, wrecker contracts, golf cart permitting, and parking operations. In addition to these duties, she will oversee a team of employees, such as deputy city marshals and the parking enforcement team, while working closely with the public.

Morris’s Extensive Law Enforcement Career

Morris brings over 20 years of law enforcement experience to the role. She began her career with the Houston Police Department, where she quickly rose through the ranks to the position of Assistant Chief. During her time in Houston, Morris played an essential role in supporting Galveston during major public events such as Mardi Gras and the Lone Star Rally. She also had a crucial role in disaster response efforts, particularly during Hurricanes Ike and Harvey.

After retiring from Houston, Morris continued her leadership journey in other major cities, serving as Deputy Chief in Miami and most recently as Interim Deputy Chief and Interim Chief of Police in Aurora, Colorado.

City’s Confidence in Morris

City Manager Brian Maxwell expressed his confidence in Morris, stating, “Heather Morris brings a tremendous level of experience and professionalism to the role. We are excited to welcome her to Galveston and confident she will serve our community well.”

Morris to Begin Role on June 16, 2025

Heather Morris will officially begin her duties as City Marshal on June 16, 2025, marking the start of a new chapter for Galveston’s law enforcement and community service.
