Frisco, TX – Frisco Police have released an update following a disturbing incident last week in which a bullet struck a local school building during school hours. The incident occurred on April 17 at Independence High School, prompting a lockdown and a full investigation by law enforcement.

According to police, a single bullet hit an exterior wall of the school near the athletic fields. Thankfully, no students or staff were injured, and the bullet did not penetrate any classrooms.

Initial concerns about an active shooter were quickly dismissed after officers secured the area and determined the shot came from outside the campus. Investigators now believe the bullet was fired accidentally from a nearby residential area, possibly by someone discharging a firearm without awareness of its proximity to the school.

“This could have ended very differently,” said Frisco Police Sergeant Caleb Martinez. “We are grateful no one was hurt, and we’re working hard to find out exactly who fired that shot.”

Police recovered the bullet and are conducting forensic tests to trace the firearm. Nearby residents with outdoor security cameras have been asked to review footage from the time of the incident. So far, no arrests have been made, but authorities say they have leads and are confident they’ll identify the source.

Frisco ISD officials praised school staff for following lockdown protocols swiftly and calmly. “Safety is our top priority,” said Principal Laura Romero. “Thanks to our staff and the quick response from Frisco Police, our students remained safe and informed.”

The district has increased security presence around the school this week and reminded parents and students of the importance of reporting any suspicious activity.

Frisco Police urge anyone with information about gunshots fired in the area of Eldorado Parkway and Coit Road around 11:30 a.m. on April 17 to contact them directly or submit a tip via the department’s anonymous portal.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
