Sam Johnson Senior Recreation Center for Adults 50-plus (SJC) achieved an important milestone this month, receiving its accreditation from the National Council of Aging (NCOA).
The accreditation process itself is meant to improve and strengthen senior center operations across the country. The facility has held this status for the past seven years, continuing to meet NCOA’s national standards through its programs, amenities, and outstanding customer service.
The two-phase accreditation process includes a community self-assessment, which reviews the facility’s operations and compares them to national standards of excellence. The process also includes the compilation of supporting documentation related to the NCOA’s national standards, as well as an on-site review and recommendation by the National Accreditation Board.
The accreditation status lasts for five years.
