Frisco ISD orchestras earn high rankings

Orchestra programs from all Frisco ISD high schools took performing groups to the UIL Region 24 Orchestra Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation and brought home a number of superior and sweepstakes rankings.

All 10 Frisco ISD high schools were recognized for their performances.

At the UIL Orchestra Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation, orchestras first performed a concert of three pieces that the students and their directors had been preparing for weeks. From the concert, the students went straight to sight reading.

During the sight reading evaluation, the director was provided three minutes to study a score before instructing students through a piece they had not previously prepared for. During the seven to 10 minutes of instruction, the director could not perform the music on any instrument, tap rhythms or perform any part of the music in any fashion. No sounds were permitted until it was finally time to perform for a panel of judges.

If the director chose to, the students could play a quick scale or long tone before performing the sight reading music. The students were then judged on the performance of the piece upon their first time to ever play it.

Frisco ISD: Congratulations goes to Lebanon Trail, Liberty, Lone Star, Memorial, Reedy and Wakeland high schools, which had all of their orchestras receive a Sweepstakes designation.
