Game on: Ford Center at The Star in Frisco will host Plano vs. Eastwood football game on Thursday, Sept. 5

Eastwood and the Plano Wildcats will play football after all.

On Thursday, Plano ISD announced it would not to host the second annual out-of-district matchup between Plano Senior High School and El Paso area Eastwood High School, originally scheduled for Sept. 6.

Why? After “consulting” with local law enforcement agencies, Plano ISD administrators said they “felt” obligated to prioritize the safety of the participating players, students, families and communities and canceled the football game.

On Friday, the story is now updated: The game will be played. But not in a Plano ISD stadium. The game has been moved up to Thursday, Sept. 5 in Frisco, Texas.

Frisco ISD Superintendent Mike Waldrip, with the support of the Dallas Cowboys, reached out to Plano ISD on Friday, Aug. 16 to offer the use of the Ford Center at the Star.

Plano ISD Supt. Sara Bonser said: “The Ford Center provides the security needed in this unique circumstance. This game will be hosted in an ideal facility equipped with built-in safety measures that are not available at our local stadiums.

“Plano ISD is grateful to Frisco ISD and the Dallas Cowboys for their generosity and community spirit. The district reissued an invitation to Ysleta ISD to play on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Star in Frisco, and they accepted.”

Superintendent Bonser said: “Today, three school districts came together to find a solution for students that keeps them safe and allows them the opportunity to send a positive message about sportsmanship.”

Plano Senior High School Principal Sarah Watkins said: “I just want to express my appreciation to everyone who stepped forward to assist in making it possible to play this game. It is an absolute pleasure to once again host Eastwood High School and show them the warm hospitality of the Plano Wildcats.”
