McKinney says no to developer who wanted tax credit to help fund apartments for low-income housing

An 84-unit apartment complex won’t be the new neighbor on a piece of land zoned for multi-family housing after the McKinney City Council voted to deny a low-income housing tax credit.

The property is situated off Ridge Road and Virginia Parkway.

The real estate developer asked for the tax credit to bring in affordable housing apartments near McKinney’s Dowell Middle School, a retirement community and the Trinity Presbyterian Church.

McKinney city council members voted, 4-3, to deny the tax credit.

Look for the land close to Chateau retirement community, the church and the school to come before planning and zoning again west of U.S. 75.

The McKinney YMCA is near where the apartments would have gone up west of Ridge Road in this area that’s south of Virginia Parkway.
