State 6A football semifinals: Allen Eagles eliminate Cedar Ridge, 28-7 #TXHSFB

On a rainy December Saturday at Baylor’s McLane Stadium on the Brazos River in Waco a fourth-and-20 call turned into a play that the Allen fans will long remember as the Eagles won their Class 6A state Division I semifinal football game against Cedar Ridge, 28-7.

The big play saw Allen’s Theo Wease out jump Cedar Ridge defenders for a 30-yard scoring catch on a pass from quarterback Grant Tisdale. That touchdown pass against double coverage gave Allen a 14-0 margin at halftime.

Allen is now 15-0 and going back to the state championship game.

In addition to Tisdale and Wease, the Allen offensive line and defense came up with timely big plays.

Brock Sturges scored two touchdowns on short runs after Allen’s defense came up with big plays. The game’s first score came in the second quarter after a 56-yard fumble return by Tkai Lloyd down to the Cedar Ridge 3-yard line.

Credit lineman Emmanuel Nwokorie recovered a fumble down on the Cedar Ridge 31-yard line in the second quarter. Nwokorie’s recovery helped set up the drive that led to the storybook pass from Tisdale to Wease.

In the fourth quarter, Sturges scored the final Eagles’ touchdown after Allen stopped a pass play on a punting situation when Cedar Ridge was called for intentional grounding.

Allen’s defense kept making the most of the rain, holding off Cedar Ridge for three quarters and most of the fourth period.

The defense put the Eagles up by four touchdowns when Luke Jaksick scored on a 32-yard interception return.

Allen will play Lake Travis at 3 p.m. Saturday in Arlington, Texas, in the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium.
