What do Steve Harvey, Nastia Liukin, Lance Armstrong, Steve Harvey and Troy Aikman have in common?

Who do you know from Plano, Texas?

By Brian Bearden

Let’s start with Anousheh Ansari, who earned degrees in electrical engineering and computer science at George Mason and a master’s at George Washington.

Anousheh Ansari came to the United States in 1984 from Iran when she was 18.

Ansari wrote about her life in “My Dream of Stars,” after her Russian Soyuz space flight up to the International Space Station.

Lance Armstrong …

How about Lance Armstrong, the seven-time winner of the Tour de France. He used to run and bike around Plano, plus he was a City of Plano swimmer. He was fourth in the state 1,500 as a 12-year-old. And, the rest is history as he started doing triathlons, winning the Iron Kids Triathlon at age 13.

Steve Harvey …

There’s TV’s Steve Harvey. He lived in Plano along White Rock Creek in a five-bedroom Mediterranean-style home remodeled in 2004. The property, over 3 and a quarter acres next to the golf course, had a pool and spa plus guest quarters with elevator, private detached exercise room, four-car garage with marble floors, walk-in humidor, gazebo and sports court. He also had a home in Frisco and property over in Denton County in the mid-1990s and until around 2006.

Stephen Katz …

Plano East alumni remember the writer of The Contract – Stephen Katz (1946-2005). Katz, the guy from the Bronx, New York, taught at Plano East.  His first TV assignment was writing for Hart to Hart. The Contract starred Morgan Freeman and John Cusack.

Troy Aikman …

Alan Tudyk …

Remember Dodgeball? Actor Alan Tudyk is from Plano. In addition to seeing him in a movie with Vince Vaughn, you may have spotted Tudyk in I, Robot with Will Smith and Bridget Moynahan.

In 2017, you can Alan Tudyk in Powerless with Vanessa Hudgens. You have seen him in 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe.

Greg Ray …

Indy Racing League driver Greg Ray may have pulled up aside you on Preston Road. He now works as C.O.O. at Plano Marine.

Kristin Holt Adams

If you watch G4, you have seen Kristin Holt Adams of Plano. She went to TCU and has Cowboy Cheerleader DCC credentials.

You may have seen her for GameStop but we like Kristin on YouTube with Kristin and Danny Adams.

Jennifer Vasquez …

Even Big Brother had a Plano person on Big Brother 6 – Jennifer Vasquez.

Scott Mechlowicz …

Scott Mechlowicz is another from Plano Senior High. He went to UCLA and has been big in EuroTrip, Mean Creek, Peaceful Warrior, Gone, Undocumented, Cat Run, Neverland and Eden. And, if you said he attended UT-Austin for a semester, you would be correct.

H. Ross Perot …

Did you say H. Ross Perot? The Presidential candiate? Perot took on George Bush and Bill Clinton in the 1992 race. He founded Perot Systems in Plano among many other achievements.

Nastia Liukin …
