McKinney TX: Krewe of Barkus dog parade Feb. 15

Downtown McKinney will be reveling in baguettes, beignets, beagles and bulldogs as the 13th annual Krewe of Barkus Mardi Gras dog parade and festival celebrates pooches in Paris on Sunday, Feb. 15. Pooches are encouraged to celebrate the culture and fashion that keeps tails wagging from the French Quarter to the City of Lights.

Krewe of Barkus begins at 12:30 p.m. at Mitchell Park, just west of the Historic Downtown McKinney commercial district, where attendees will visit with over 40 pet-related vendors and can grab a bite to eat. The parade begins at 2 p.m. Patterned after the legendary Krewe of Barkus parade in New Orleans, the McKinney TX event features a parade, costume contest, vendor booths and Pawty in the Park, which includes free activities for the entire family. This year, spectators will be entertained by the music of the Dixieland Razzmajazz Band that will perform in the parade and on stage.

The costume contest and float entry fee is $5 per dog or float, and pre-registration by Feb. 8 is required. For more information, visit or call 972-547-2661.
