Join Us In January for the NCAA

Brackets have been announced, but it’s still a toss-up as to who will play in the 2013 NCAA Division I Football Championship Series Game. One thing you can bet we know for sure is that crowds will roll into town after the New Year for the big party in the making. The game begins at high Noon Jan. 5th in Frisco. In between Tailgate Town and the game, there’s plenty of shopping and dining to do. The best way to make sure you’ve got a spot is to get your tickets now.

Progress in Motion

It’s no secret that the Museum of the American Railroad is moving to Frisco
from Dallas. We hope you enjoy this update about one of the more interesting
aspects of the move – a crane lifting a 200,000lb steam engine.
“It is a massive project. Some of these cars and locomotives haven’t been
out on a mainline in nearly 50 years,” says museum President
and CEO Bob LaPrelle. History is on the move.

The More the Merrier

The Holiday Inn on Parkwood Blvd has been remodeled, refurbished
and renamed. It’s now open for business as the Holiday Inn Express.
The new Home2 Suites by Hilton, also on Parkwood Blvd, takes the
number of hotels in Frisco up to 12.

Hockey and D-League Basketball

The 2012 Robertson Cup National Champions, the Texas Tornado,

have already dropped the puck on their season and Season 3
is in the making for the Texas Legends NBA D-League. Both teams
can be caught in action at the Dr Pepper Arena.

Les Brown on Zig Ziglar

By LES BROWN

Les Brown
Zig Ziglar, my friend, mentor, and an icon in the motivational industry died today. The first time I heard him, I met my destiny and say my future. His words captivated and mesmerized me, and I hung onto every word. I often drove 300-400 miles to hear him speak live; listened to his words on tape; and his voice was a familiar part of my household for decades. Once I heard him, I determined to share a stage and speak with him, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, and Jim Rohn ~ a dream I feel fortunate to have realized.

Many people believe you should practice what you preach. Zig believed you should preach what you practice. His life and inspirational messages touched my heart and spirit, and I have never been the same. He inspired me to get out of my head, and follow my heart to become a speaker.

Zig’s life is an example of a positive voice. The world is a better place because he lived his passion, and encouraged me and millions of others, to live from our GREATNESS!

Former basketball player shot, killed breaking into Plano home

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) – A former member of the Nigerian national basketball team was shot and killed after breaking into a Plano home last week, according to police.

Plano Police Officer David Tilley has confirmed that Chinedu Onyeuku was shot and killed by a resident after Onyeuku allegedly smashed a glass patio door and entered the Plano residence.
Police were dispatched to a reported burglary in the 1500 block of Rio Grande Drive around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21. When police arrived, Onyeuku, 29, was found shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It’s a pretty complicated investigation,” said Tilley. “The delay was based on a lot of critical information and evidence that needed to be gathered.”
The resident reported that at least two black males were on his patio prior to the glass door being smashed. When Onyeuku entered the home, the resident shot him with his shotgun. The other suspect (s) fled the scene on foot.
The homeowner will not be arrested, while a grand jury will determine whether or not the shooting was justified.
According to TeamNigeriaBasketball.com, Onyeuku was first invited to the Nigerian team in 2009 and helped pave the way for Nigeria’s participation in last summer’s Olympic games. He played for the team during the FIBA Africa Championships, where he averaged 3 points per game.
The 6-foot-3 guard played one season at Illinois State University. More recently, he spent time playing with the Arlington Bulldogs of the American Basketball Association (ABA).
Onyeuku was born in Lagos, Nigeria in 1983 and played his high school basketball at Creighton Prep in Nebraska.
