Cole, Leach come out swinging in 67 race

Both candidates in the District 67 runoff for the Texas House of Representatives seat came out swinging this week. Take a look:

Jon Cole to Opponent: ‘There you go again.’

House District 67 candidate Jon Cole responded to second place candidate Jeff Leach’s accusation of a push poll as “absurd” and “bizarre.”

“My campaign is not push polling this week – or doing any polling, period. Sadly, this is not the first time Jeff Leach has tried to put one over on the voters and sadly, I’m sure it won’t be the last,” Cole said.

“To borrow a line from President Reagan, ‘There you go again.’

“Jeff Leach has made it a habit to throw around false accusations – this time he should own up and issue an immediate apology for doing so.”

Last fall, Jeff Leach put out a list of supporters implying that these were local people supporting his campaign when the truth was the vast majority of the names listed were not even residents of Collin County, much less House District 67 voters.

Then during the primary campaign, Leach was caught by the Quorum Report saying one thing to lobbyists in Austin and another to Collin County residents.

“I’m proud that my volunteers and supporters have made my campaign the most organized, positive, and grass roots oriented campaign this year,” Cole added. “My campaign will continue to do what it has been doing for eight months: talking to my neighbors and fellow District 67 residents about what they want and need in a State Representative. I’m proud to have the support and endorsements of people who actually live in District 67 and will be participating in my campaign and voting.”

Jon Cole Misleading Voters in HD 67

As conservative leaders in Collin County and across Texas continue to rally around Jeff Leach’s bid for the Texas House in District 67, Leach’s opponent, Jon Cole is choosing to deceive voters in a desperate attempt to stall Leach’s momentum in the race. Specifically, just this week Jon Cole has used negative push polling designed to mislead voters about Leach’s background and his positions on a variety of issues.

This is not the first time Jon Cole has resorted to such desperate campaign tactics.

In 2008, Cole was called out by Young Conservatives of Texas for using negative and misleading push polling in his campaign against State Representative Jerry Madden. In a public release, Young Conservatives of Texas specifically cited Cole’s “dirty tactics” that sought to “smear the reputation of one of our state’s finest leaders.”

Based on Cole’s deceiving mailers, misleading robo-calls and negative push polling, The Collin County Observer has cited Cole tactics as “old-fashioned, shoot-em-up, nasty Texas politics.”
Most recently, The Dallas Morning News alarmingly stated that Jon Cole is “given to troubling distortions.”
In response to Jon Cole’s negative push polling, Jeff Leach stated, “I am disappointed that instead of focusing on the issues my opponent feels that it is acceptable to intentionally mislead and deceive the voters. The voters in Plano, Allen, Richardson and Dallas deserve better.”

Leach continued, “I invite anyone who has questions or concerns about my record or background to contact me directly via my personal contact information which is available on my website at http://www.jeffleach.com.”

Running for Texas House of Representative in District 67, Jeff Leach was raised in Plano and graduated from Plano Senior High School. He is a graduate of SMU’s Dedman School of Law and currently practices with the law firm of Griffith Nixon Davison, P.C. He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University. Jeff and his wife Becky are active members of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. They live in Plano with their two children Brady, age 4, and Charlotte, age 1.

Leach has been endorsed by numerous community leaders, including State Representative Jerry Madden, State Representative Ken Paxton, State Representative Jodie Laubenberg, as well as House District 67 Candidates Roger Burns, John Pitchford, and Mabel Simpson.

Leach has also earned endorsements from statewide organizations including Texans For Fiscal Responsibility, Young Conservatives of Texas, Texas Right to Life, Conservative Republicans of Texas and the Collin County Conservative Republicans, among others.
