CPA Chris Hill kept hammering his pledge to be a full-time county commissioner and held off Ray Eckenrode in race to represent northeast Collin County.
“Thank you very much to everyone for your encouragement and your support in the campaign,” Hill told voters Tuesday night. “I am honored to have the opportunity to be your next county commissioner, and I look forward to serving everyone in Precinct 3.”
The Republican Primary had several races that had everyone’s attention Tuesday night.
McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller said, “For those who ran for office in the primary today, thank you for participating in the political process that is vitally important to our rights as Americans. To those who were successful there is much to do, and I look forward to working with those who serve our mutual constituency on issues important to McKinney and our region.”
In the Allen-Plano-Richardson Republican primary race for state representative, Jon Cole and Jeff Leach took the top two spots and head into a runoff.
“We came in first place tonight!” Cole said. “Roger [Burns], Jeran [Akers], and John [Pitchford] ran a spirited and well-fought race. I’m so thankful to have gotten to know these great men. Now, our next battle is July!”
Leach said, “We have worked diligently over the past several months to spread our conservative message to the voters in House District 67. I am thankful for and humbled by the thousands of people from our community and all over our great State of Texas who have rallied behind our campaign.”
“We celebrated a great victory tonight with over 30 percent of the vote,” Leach said. “I am honored to have received such a significant percentage of the vote in a hotly contested five-way race. Tomorrow we start working toward a victory in the runoff on July 31st!
“A sincere thank you to all who trusted me with your vote,” Leach said. “And a special thanks to all of our incredible campaign volunteers, staffers and supporters. Becky and I are blessed beyond belief and look forward to celebrating a victory with you all on July 31st!”
In Frisco, Pat Fallon won District 106 with 71 percent of the vote. His district covers Frisco, Plano, Little Elm and The Colony in Denton County.
In District 70, Scott Sanford pulled off a big win for state representative over Bracy Wilson in a battle between two pastors in McKinney.
“I called Scott and congratulated him for a spirited race,” Wilson said. “I thought he did great. I think he’s going to do great as our representative.”
Sanford had 60.62 percent of the vote.
State Rep. Ken Paxton said, “Scott is a committed conservative. I’ve known Scott and his wife, Shelly, since our days at Baylor, and I know he’ll represent Collin County well.”

Scott Turner breezed to a win in his District 33 State House race with 75.87 percent.
“Friends, than you so much for your support and encouragement throughout the campaign,” Turner said. ” It was a hard fought battle, and I’m so excited to announce that we won the Republican primary! I look forward to representing the great State of Texas as a member of the Texas House of Representatives.”
“I want to thank everyone again for their support,” Tucker told our reporter at Randy White’s Hall of Fame BBQ in Frisco on Tuesday night. “The polls were very busy, and I know that is because Team Tucker got out the vote.
“To God be the glory!,” Tucker said. “I sincerely thank each of you for your prayers, support, donations, votes, and tremendous work that it took to win this race. I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve the citizens of Collin County as the Judge of the 199th District Court.”
Barnett Walker (Interview with Walker) and Sharon Ramage took the top two spots for judge and head into a runoff for judge in court at law No. 2.
Jackie Walker said, “Congratulations to my husband for getting into the run off. Very proud of you! God has blessed us in so many ways. A huge thank you to all of our supporters and friends. We couldn’t do it without you. Now it’s time to start campaigning again. Looks like that vacation will have to wait at least a couple more months.”
Barnett Walker said, “I am deeply honored to have learned that State Representative Jodie Laubenberg has endorsed my campaign. We are extremely grateful.”
Court at Law No. 2 Opponent Gene Sera wished them luck from GOP Headquarters in McKinney, and said he gained a lot from running against two strong candidates. Sera interview
Ben Smith had the most votes in the 380th court race with 35.86 percent. Terri Green had 28.54 and Jody Johnson 22.03.
“What a fun last day of voting,” Green said. “I enjoyed riding the county and stopping to visit with the many supporters and volunteers to personally thank them for their service to our campaign. Many thanks to the elected officials, dignitaries and others who called, texted and/or e-mailed today congratulating me on a ‘well-run, top notch, ethical campaign!’ I appreciate their continued support and well wishes.”
In the court of appeals race, Judge David Evans had the lead. Evans interview on six-county race
DISTRICT CLERK
In the race for Collin County District Clerk, Andrea Stroh Thompson beat Tim Baker.
BOX WINS SHERIFF RACE
Terry Box easily held off Republican challengers to win the Republican primary for county sheriff again.
“I want to say how humbled I am by everyone’s hard work on my behalf to be reelected,” Sheriff Box said. “I will always do my best to make you proud of your Sheriff’s Office, and like I said tonight in front of a large crowd, most of the credit goes to the professional employees of the Collin County Sheriff’s Office for working so hard to make me look good.”
PRESIDENTIAL RACE
Mitt Romney won the county vote with 70.79 percent to Rick Santorum’s 10.13 percent and Ron Paul’s 10.06 percent.
SENATE RACE
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and tea party fave Ted Cruz will be going to a runoff. Former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert conceded early he had lost to what he called the “empty suits,” and Celina’s Craig James picked up about four percent of the vote.
“Today Republican voters made a choice between a conservative Texas businessman and Washington special interests,” Dewhurst said. “If you like Texas, you’re going to love the job I’m going to do for you in Washington.”
Cruz issued a challenge to Dewhurst to meet him for five debates before the July 31 runoff.
In Collin County, Cruz had 35.46 percent to 30.65 for Dewhurst, 27.04 percent for Leppert and 4.26 for James, who received 1,994 votes in the county.
HALL, JOHNSON WIN EASILY
Congressmen Ralph Hall and Sam Johnson won handily. McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller congratulated Hall and thanked him for his leadership.
Congressman Johnson was in McKinney at GOP Headquarters Tuesday night after winning the Third Congressional District Republican primary election.
“Coming right after Memorial Day, a time of gratitude and reflection for our freedoms, this victory means a whole lot,” Johnson said. “I know that voters have a choice, and it’s humbling that they chose me.
“I know that America’s best days are ahead of us. The America I know and love fights for a better tomorrow, and together we will get there,” he said.
Johnson is the chairman of the Social Security Subcommittee and a member of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee.
In McKinney, Johnson thanked all of his supporters for helping him wage a positive grass-roots campaign that focused on the issues. Johnson wants America to get back on the road to recovery and peel back the “layers of burdensome, over-reaching government created when Democrats controlled the U.S. House, the Senate and the White House.”
EDUCATION
In the race for the State Board of Education in District 12, Gail Spurlock (31.07 percent) and Geraldine “Tincy” Miller (26.97) finished first and second.
