MYFOXDFW.COM: McKinney man charged in death of cyclist

MYFOXDFW.COM reports that a 48-year-old McKinney man is charged with intoxication manslaughter after police say he hit and killed a cyclist last week

Police responded to a hit and run on Thursday evening in the 1800 block of Greenwood Road in McKinney.

They found 58-year-old Stephen Miles, a bicyclist who had been struck by a car whose driver fled. Miles was taken by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Following tips from witnesses, police later arrested Pedro Mendoza of McKinney. He’s being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
Meanwhile, Miles’ girlfriend of six years is mourning his death. He was a substitute teacher, she said.

“He was a math and science guy. He was very logical about things. But then he had this other side that was so romantic and sweet. He’d think of really kinds sweet things to do,” said Susan Mardele, Miles’ girlfriend.
