The Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast runs from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 19 at First Christian Church (behind Brookshire’s Grocery) 1800 W. Hunt Street. Event director Glynn Wingard said the Pancake Breakfast (pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee) is “like a large family gathering, in that people meet old friends and make new ones. Everyone visits with each other, laugh a lot and have a great time.” Kiwanis meets from noon to 1 p.m. every Thursday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 608 W. Lamar Street. …

The weather is expected to be warm Saturday, Feb. 19 for the Historic Farmers Market at Chestnut Square near downtown and right off Hwy. 5. During the winter, the Farmers Market is every third Saturday. Weekly markets start up again March 19.

The Collin County Lincoln Society, led by former Plano mayor Jeran Akers, will be back in McKinney at Rick’s Chophouse from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 9. The group meets the second Wednesday each month. Akers has been on the speaker circuit asking everyone to consider signing up as an organ donor.
Congressman Allen West of Florida will be the keynote speaker for the Lincoln Day Dinner at the Allen Event Center on Saturday, April 2. The 43rd-annual dinner sponsored by the Collin County Republican Party will have a VIP reception at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Col. West served in Operation Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and trained troops in Afghanistan. The Lincoln Day event includes Live and Silent Auctions and dinner prepared by Chef John Latta.
